City gas utilities bring people good life with the latest gas appliances and systems, including pleasant cooking and meals with gas flame and the comfort of hot water available at anytime. In the bathroom, a gas fired hot-water heater/dryer unit controls temperatures within a narrow temperature range, preventing sudden temperature changes and possible scalding; while a gas fired radiant in-floor heating system keeps you warm from the feet up. Gas is also the power source for clean, energy-saving and powerful air conditioners. The line-up extends to include "ECOWILL", a gas engine powered cogeneration unit, and fuel cells that simultaneously produce electricity and hot water.

・ Residential fuel cells for home power generation
Residential fuel cells constitute a completely new type of system for simultaneous generation of electrical power and heating of water in the home. The worldユs first residential fuel cell system was commercially installed in the Japanese prime ministerユs official residence in 2005. Residential fuel cells are expected to come into wide use.
Fuel cells produce electricity from hydrogen (H2) and oxygen (O2) by applying a principle that is the reverse of electrolysis in water.
Residential models extract hydrogen from city gas and oxygen from the air. Because they produce electricity by a chemical reaction instead of gas combustion, they are quiet and clean. Even the small-capacity systems offer both a high generation efficiency and a high total efficiency due to their use of waste heat. As such, they are means of making effective use of energy in a manner befitting the 21st century.
