Efforts toward biodiversity aimed to realize a sustainable society are connected to both global warming measures (toward a low carbon society) and environmental measures. As a set of guidelines for such efforts, the Japan Gas Association has established the “Environment Action Guidelines.” The following principles are related to biodiversity, extracted from the Action Guidelines. Based on the recognition that city gas business is a business rooted in the community, we will continually work through collaboration with local people, government, etc.

Environmental Philosophy

Recognize the importance of biodiversity; make an effort to grasp and analyze the effects of one’s own business activities on biodiversity; reduce the effects on biodiversity and work toward sustainable use; and also address biodiversity issues that are not related to one’s business activities, as part of the company’s social contribution activities.

: Recognize that business activities are made possible by biodiversity and the blessings of nature, and contribute to the construction of a society in symbiosis with nature through activities with consideration on biodiversity.
: Work to grasp the effects of one’s own business activities on biodiversity and pursue undertakings through collaboration with various stakeholders. Also, aggressively promote the protection of biodiversity through efforts to prevent global warming, and work to form a recycling-oriented society that contributes to biodiversity and to protect the global environment. As such, promote efforts in collaboration with other measures related to environmental protection.
: Recognize that city gas business is a business rooted in the community, and contribute to the protection of biodiversity and the improvement of local society’s awareness toward biodiversity, through collaboration with local people, government, etc.

We shall promote a wide range of environmental communication activities such as the following: distribution of environment-related information; participation in environmental activities in collaboration with administrators, local communities, etc.; and participation in global environment conservation activities through the international exchange of environment-related information and technical assistance on the environment.

: Work to improve accountability through publicity activities regarding environmental protection via the Gas Association’s journals, mass media, and the Internet, as well as publication of environmental reports, etc.
: Contribute to the protection of the regional environment in partnership with local people and businesses, administration, etc., through regional recycling activities, nature protection activities, environment-related events, cooperation in schools’ environmental education, etc.
